Norway’s national amateur radio society, the NRRL, reports that Radio Amateurs have been providing assistance following recent flooding.
The NRRL report that as a result of the flooding and landslides in Oppland and Hedmark, the telecoms company Telenor has had substantial problems with the mobile phone network and the Main Rescue Coordination Centre for Southern Norway requested assistance from NRRL.
Communications were set up between southern Norway and Lillehammer.
Repeaters around Oslo and Mjøs have been used.

Hungarian Radio Amateurs took part in the field exercise that assumed the loss of telecommunication networks due to a earthquake in Tolna.
The exercise was organized within the IRIS project supported by the frame program FP7 of the European Union and it was held from 23 May to 25 May 2011, organized by disaster management in Tolna county, Hungary.
The assumption was the lack of electricity and loss of professional telecommunication networks (Tetra, mobile, Internet etc.) in the area due to a major earthquake in Tolna county.
According to telecommunication plan of the exercise radio amateurs established HF and UHF communication between the portable station on site, the emergency center in county seat (Szekszárd) and a radio club station in Budapest (who forwarded the messages to the HQ of national disaster management.
Hence, ITU-UUM seeks this opportunity to organize this seminar to provide an insight to the importance of radio communication and RACIM’s role in emergency communication. The amateur radio operators being the well spread communicators across the nation.
Information and guidance from the National Security Council, Fire and Rescue and other relevant agencies would give RACIM and relevant NGOs a better understanding of their role in Public Protection and Disaster Relief. Among the subjects that will be discussed is the National Security Council’s Directive No.20 (MKN Arahan 20) which states the roles of all rescue and relief agencies in a disaster. Read more »
